Coffee is the second-largest market in the world after oil and a highly traded beverage consumed worldwide. It provides a daily income for 135 million people, including 20 to 25 million small producers in more than 50 developing countries. Six million tons of coffee grounds are produced per day worldwide. As a result, large quantities of SCG are incinerated, and stored in landfills, potentially releasing harmful substances such as polyphenol and tannin into the environment.

As eyewear case manufacturer, we are also seeking ways to protect the environment while producing cases. We insist on exploring new alternative and low environmental impact materials with a particular focus on bio-sourced materials. Due to coffee grounds physical and chemical properties, we see the possibilities of SCG (spent coffee grounds) recovery and reuse. Spent coffee grounds (SCG) have been separated from exhausted coffee capsules, mainly made in polypropylene (PP), and subsequently melt mixed in different percentages. Instead of 100% PP materials, this new composition lays less burden to the environment.
